The KNUST School of Business (KSB) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG) have initiated discussions to strengthen their longstanding partnership through an expanded Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focused on professional accountancy education, digital learning, student development, and industry engagement.
Leading the ICAG delegation, Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Eric Oduro Osae, outlined proposals including enhanced exemptions for KNUST students, curriculum alignment with ICAG’s competency framework, examination digitalization, the establishment of an ICAG Learning Centre at KSB, structured internship opportunities, and language training programmes to improve graduate competitiveness.
“We want to review our MoU to incorporate more opportunities for KNUST students, including enhanced exemptions, curriculum alignment through our competency framework, and closer collaboration so that graduates can qualify as professional accountants with minimal additional examinations,” he said.
Welcoming the initiative, Vice Dean of KSB, Prof. (Mrs.) Felicity Asiedu-Appiah, noted that the collaboration would support curriculum modernization, professional certification pathways, and digital learning, leveraging the School’s Digital Skills Laboratory.
“Creating a learning center will give students the support they need to pursue professional qualifications while studying. Our vision is to establish an inclusive learning environment that is open to students across the University, not only those in the School of Business,” she said.
Prof. Kingsley Opoku Appiah described the proposed ICAG Learning Centre as a transformative initiative that would enable students to pursue professional qualifications alongside their academic programmes. He stated: “We want to create a learning environment that supports students from every discipline to pursue professional qualifications alongside their academic programmes.”
The meeting concluded with both institutions expressing optimism that the enhanced partnership would strengthen graduate employability and deepen collaboration between academia and industry.
