The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CoHSS) at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has announced its first International Sustainability Conference, scheduled for November 5-8, 2025, in Kumasi, Ghana. The conference will address the theme "Sustainability Through Social Inclusion, Business Innovations and Environmental Governance: African Perspectives and Global Trends."

This inaugural event aims to tackle pressing sustainability challenges through both African perspectives and global context. The conference will bring together policy-makers, scholars, legal and business professionals, entrepreneurs, development practitioners, government officials, NGOs, traditional leaders, investors, and donor agencies from across Africa and beyond.

"The global society is getting vehemently challenged by rapid governance, socio-cultural and environmental decay with unprecedented rates of policy and business failures and sustainability crises requiring dialogue, research and policy attention," states the conference website, highlighting the urgency of the gathering.

The conference will feature 17 subthemes covering diverse areas including gender and social inclusion, climate action, technological innovations, corporate governance, legal systems, indigenous knowledge systems, and chieftaincy and traditional systems sustainability.

Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit abstracts by June 30, 2025. Selected papers from the conference will be considered for publication in special issues of the Journal of Science and Technology (JUST) and Journal of Social Sciences and Policy (JoSSP).

The event will be held in a hybrid format, allowing both in-person and virtual participation. Registration fees vary by category, with early bird rates available until August 30, 2025. The conference program includes arrival on November 5, conference sessions on November 6-7, a farewell banquet on November 7, and an excursion on November 8.

Professor Prince Osei-Wusu Adjei, Head of the Department of Geography and Rural Development at KNUST, serves as the Steering Committee Chair. The conference will take place at the KNUST Great Hall and Business School.
