George Meyiri Bob-Milliar, an Associate Professor in African Studies at the Department of History and Political Studies, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana, has been awarded a prestigious one-year Non-Resident Fellowship at the Center on Global Democracy, Cornell Brooks School of Public Policy, Cornell University for 2026.
Professor Bob-Milliar has also been elected to serve a three-year term as Chair of the African Politics Conference Group (APCG) within the American Political Science Association (APSA), effective from 2026.
The Non-Resident Fellowship at the Center on Global Democracy, running from 1st January 2026 to 31st December 2026, is designed to promote collaboration and advance research on critical global issues including climate, democracy, and civic education. As part of this program, Professor Bob-Milliar will contribute to the CGD's mission of improving research and policy engagement on these urgent topics while connecting with leading researchers and policymakers at Cornell University.
In his role as APCG Chair, he will lead one of the most essential platforms for scholars to share and discuss research on African political dynamics. His election underscores his dedication to shaping the conversation on African politics within the global academic community, and his leadership is expected to boost the group's activities and influence outreach.
Appointed alongside Professor Bob-Milliar to the APCG board are Ruth Carlitz as Vice-Chair, Elizabeth Sperber as Secretary, and Alex Dyzenhaus as Communications Officer, with Anna Mwaba continuing her service as Treasurer. This new board is set to strengthen the group's initiatives, with a particular focus on fostering collaboration and publication opportunities among scholars of African politics.
Professor Bob-Milliar's dual appointments mark a significant milestone in his career and demonstrate the high level of academic talent at KNUST.
